Ssangyong reveals second Korando facelift

Some seven years since it was first revealed, the Ssangyong Korando has been given a second facelift.

The ‘other’ Korean car maker – which describes itself as Korea’s “most innovative and respective automotive company” – has showcased a number of promising concepts in recent years. Two new models, the Tivoli and XLV, have appeared since 2015, but an Australian launch for either model remains elusive.

The Korando soldiers on as the company’s only offering in Australia’s wildly popular SUV market, launched in 2011 before gaining a styling makeover in early 2014.

This latest styling update – posted to Ssangyong Thailand’s Facebook page – brings a second evolution of the Korando’s front end, including new headlights, a taller new grille and a restyled bumper.

Little else appears to have changed, although only one view has been revealed thus far.

CarAdvice has contacted Ssangyong’s Australian distributor for word on local availability of this latest update.

Ssangyong registered 156 Australian sales for the Korando in 2016, making up the majority of the brand’s 371 sales here for the year. The Stavic followed, with 126 sales. Just 45 Actyon Sports utes were sold here in 2016, and 44 Rextons also found a home.

By comparison, the SsangYong brand registered 1000 sales, on the dot, in 2015: 403 to the Korando, 360 to the Stavic, 140 to the Actyon Sports and 97 to the Rexton.
