These are the Anunnaki: Alien Gods of Ancient Sumer

The Anunnaki are said to be a group of deities in several ancient Mesopotamian cultures like the Sumerian, Akkadian, Assyrian, and Babylonian.
The term Anunnaki is often used in ancient texts as referring to a group of gods. The name is a derivative of the names heaven and earth, Anu and Ki but is also translated by some as “those of royal blood” and also “princely offspring”. Some even believe the Anunnaki are sons and daughters of the gods, heaven and earth.
The Annunaki were the main gods of the Sumerian pantheon. Their name and certain aspects of their mythology have been co-opted by certain theorists on several occasions.
It’s a crazy theory, no doubt. However, there is an abundance of evidence to suggest that at the very least, there is a possibility there might be some truth to it. Based on discoveries made in modern day Iraq throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the ancient Sumerians – thought by some until these discoveries to be mere myth – appear to have not only been influenced by the Anunnaki, but quite possibly owe their entire existence to them.
The Sumerian civilisation developed on the Persian Gulf, growing to strength at around 4 – 3,000 B.C. The “Plain of the Land of Shinar” is the territory witch after 2,000 B.C. became called Babylon. The Greeks named the region Mesopotamia (The land between two rivers), most of which lies in the modern state of Iraq.
There are others who believe they are a form of extra-terrestrial beings (reptilian or serpent race) from outer space or sometimes more specifically from the planet Nibiru/Planet X that at one time lived on this planet or still do on another plane of existence.
In particular, the discovery of thousands upon thousands of clay tablets with cuneiform writing on them would provide the story of the Anunnaki, as well as tying them and indeed the ancient Sumerians to the much debated ancient astronaut theory.
Although the idea of the ancient gods being aliens may seem novel, the tendency to make the gods of old into “real people” or “flesh and blood” is not at all new, dating to before the time of the Greek historian Herodotus (5th c. BCE) and developed by the Greek philosopher Euhemeros or Evemeras (c. 300 BCE). This tendency is called, in fact, “euhemerism” or “evemerism,” which claims that the numerous gods of various cultures were not “mythical” but were in reality kings, queens, warriors and assorted heroes whose lives were turned into fairytales with the addition of miraculous details to their biographies. The current Anunnaki thesis is a modern version of evemerism, although it seeks to explain the miracles as not fabulous “additions” to the tales but genuine attributes of advanced extraterrestrials.
Ancient Astronaut Theory
The “readers digest” version of the ancient astronaut theory is essentially that aliens visited Earth in the very distant past, and genetically modified primitive man resulting in the human race as we know it today. They are also believed to be the “gods” in many major religions around the world.
Erich Von Daniken’s 1968 book “Chariots Of The Gods” is largely regarded as being responsible for dragging the theory into the mainstream. Van Daniken sited numerous ancient megalithic ruins such as the Pyramids of Giza, the Nazca Lines and Stonehenge as being of extra-terrestrial origin or influence.
The ancient astronaut theory also expresses serious doubts regarding evolution and the role it actually played in human beings’ development. Such theorists believe that aliens modified our DNA, possibly mixing in some of their own, which they believe explains the so-called missing link in our timeline. This is the reason we seemed to “evolve” from primitive to “thinking” man in relative terms, overnight.
The planet of Nibiru or Planet X, discussed in Zechariah Sitchin’s book about his translations of Sumerian mythological writings, is said to be the home planet of a race of beings called the Anunnaki. In Sitchin’s books, the Anunnaki are described as beings whose planet was dying, who came to earth in search of gold that could be used to save the atmosphere on Nibiru.
The Anunnaki, sometimes being described or depicted as reptilian, are said to have copulated with Earth females and genetically engineered mankind. It is also discussed that their intention was to create a slave race in us humans. Many ancient documents found throughout history in various cultures make mention of being born from serphant gods. These same documents have given rise to the ancient astronaut theories on how advanced structures were created around the world way beyond the technology that would have been available to the civilizations at the time.
Those who believe that the ancient Anunnaki are part of a creation myth of ancient cultures like the Sumerian, Akkadian, Assyrian and Babylonian, and those who believe that what is written on ancient Mesopotamian clay tablets are actual descriptions of otherworldly beings who came down to Earth hundreds of thousands of years ago.
This seems to be a never-ending debate.
But even before the ancient Anunnaki allegedly created mankind, it is said that the Igigi –they who turn and see—were the Ancient Astronaut Gods of the younger generation, the servants to the mighty Anunnaki who came to Earth to mine gold.
Supporters (“Sitchinites”) claim that Sitchin is one of the few people who read the Sumerian language and that because he can read Sumerian, he must be interpreting the data properly. The assertion that he is one of the few scholars of Sumerian is not true. Moreover, the idea that someone may be able to read a language and therefore can interpret its data properly is a specious argument, because the one certainly does not guarantee the other. Years before Sitchin, biblical and Dead Sea scrolls scholar John Allegro studied Sumerian intimately and came to very different conclusions: To wit, that many of the words revolved around sex and drugs. Hence, it is not the “mere” ability to read the Sumerian that will produce an accurate rendering of it.
The main characters in the Sumero-Babylonian religion/mythology are Enlil/Ellil, Utu/Shamash, Marduk/Merodach, Gilgamesh, Nanna/Sin, Inanna/Ishtar, Ea/Enki and Dumuzi/Tammuz. A number of these deities are in the class called “Anunnaki” and/or “Igigi.” The Anunnaki are numbered variously: 7, 50 and 900.
None of these characters is a historical person, as, again, the Sumero-Babylonians correctly identified their own gods as being the “planets,” which, of course, included the sun and the moon to the ancients. Says the Catholic Encyclopedia regarding Babel:
“The storied tower of Birs Nimrud counts seven of these quadrangular platforms painted in seven colors, black, white, yellow, blue, scarlet, silver and gold, and in the same order sacred to the stellar gods, Adar (Saturn), Ishtar (Venus), Merodach (Jupiter), Nebo (Mercury), Nergal (Mars), Sin (the Moon), Shamash (the Sun).”

In Modern Conspiracy Theory, which revolves around subjects like the Illuminati and the secret plans of the world elite such as the NWO, the Anunnaki have gained much interest from conspiracy theorists. The Annunaki are thought to be linked to Reptilians, and have been continuously said to be the same species; however, there is no evidence to support that argument. Humans would be reptilian in nature and most of our world religions would have reptiles rather than giant humans such as seen in the Sumerian tablets of the humanoid Anunnaki. Other than that, there are statements saying the world elite are directly related to the Annunaki, now secretly collaborating a doomsday plot to rid or enslave humanity once again. Humans directly related to the superior Anunnaki have claimed to be the first to discover humanity’s purpose near our creation. The Anunnaki creation myth is annotated to have different views, for instance, some claiming it’s great evidence supporting creationism, and others claiming negative views of the creation myth, viewing the Anunnaki as a malevolent race, wanting to make mankind complete slaves.
Furthermore, such stories as Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden in The Bible, are to some, really speaking of these genetic experiments. The Garden of Eden is likely some kind of bio-dome where human beings’ development could be monitored.
This would make “God” an alien – possibly nothing more than an extra-terrestrial scientist who monitored and instructed these early human beings.
The opening line in The Bible would appear to suggest that indeed there might have been a team of such scientists who logged their experiments – “Let us make man in OUR image!” – very much plural, and what’s more it would suggest that these ancient aliens in fact looked very similar to how we do today.
Are the Anunnaki a race of extra-terrestrials that first came to Earth 450,000 years ago, kick-started the human race as we know it, and essentially are the gods written about in ancient scripture and mythology all over the planet?
