The updated 2017 Renault Clio range has hit Australian showrooms this week, bringing a revised look, added features and sharp pricing.

Starting at $15,990 plus on-road costs for the entry-level Life manual and stretching to $22,990 for the Intens and GT-Line range toppers, the new Clio starts over $2000 cheaper than the model it replaces.

From launch, the base Life is being offered with a national drive-away price of $17,990 for the manual and $19,990 for the dual-clutch EDC model, with standard equipment including body-coloured door mirrors and handles, chrome door sill insert, chrome radiator grille and a new 16-inch “flex wheel” design – Renault’s fancy name for hubcaps.

Inside, the Life adds new features like keyless entry with push-button start, automatic headlights and wipers, a rear-view camera, rear parking sensors, electric windows all-round and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Stepping up to the EDC-only mid-grade Zen ($19,990 plus ORCs) sees the addition of the company’s new C-shaped LED daytime-running lights, LED headlights, fog-lights, front parking sensors, satellite navigation with voice control, gloss black treatments for the rear bumper, lower doors and B-pillars, along with 16-inch two-tone ‘Pulsize’ alloy wheels.

At the top of the Clio range, customers can choose the more luxurious Intens, or the sporty GT-Line, both starting at $22,990 before on-road costs.

The Intens gets chrome window trims, hands-free parking assistant with side parking sensors, a driver’s armrest, LED cabin lighting, 3D Arkamys audio system, an upgraded R-Link navigation system, height-adjustable passenger seat, artificial leather/velvet upholstery, climate control, rear privacy glass, 17-inch ‘Optemic’ two-tone alloy wheels, along with no-cost option exterior and interior personalisation packages.

Exterior options for the Intens include the door sill inserts, grille insert and boot lid trim to be finished in Flame Red or Ivory, while interior options include Red or Grey trims for the dashboard, door panels and seat highlights.

Finally, the sporty GT-Line features Renault Sport-inspired blue highlights for the interior upholstery, aluminium sports pedals, GT-Line badging, a Renault Sport rear spoiler, leather handbrake handle, satin grey treatments for the door mirrors, exterior, front and rear bumper inserts, along with 17-inch ‘Serdar’ alloy wheels.

Several cost options are available for the Zen, Intens and GT-Line grades, including a panoramic fixed sunroof ($1000), a Bose premium sound system ($500, Intens and GT-Line only), along with heated (front) leather seats ($1500, GT-Line only).

Metallic paints also add an additional $550.

Under the bonnet of all six-speed dual-clutch EDC variants is the same 1.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, developing 88kW of power at 4900rpm and 190Nm of torque at 2000rpm. Meanwhile, the entry-level five-speed manual gets a 0.9-litre turbocharged three-pot with 66kW of power at 5000rpm and 135Nm of torque at 2500rpm.
