The McLaren P1 LM has set a new Nurburgring record for a road-legal production vehicle.

In a video released by Lanzante Motorsport over the weekend, the McLaren P1 LM was able to lap the Nurburgring Nordschleife in six minutes 43.2 seconds.

That’s a whole 2.7 seconds quicker than the all-electric Nio EP9 managed around the challenging German track earlier this month.

It should be noted, the P1 LM’s record was actually set by the XP1 LM, a prototype of the final production vehicle, but which is claimed to be identical to the vehicles offered up for sale.

The XP1 LM was driven by Kenny Brack, who won the 1999 Indianapolis 500 and helped to develop the P1 LM. For its run on the Nurburgring the XP1 LM used the Trofeo tyres specially designed by Pirelli for the P1 LM.

Launched in 2016, the P1 LM is a road-legal version of the P1 GTR, and was developed by Lanzante Motorsport with the blessing and support of McLaren.

The P1 LM has a hybrid drivetrain based around a twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 engine. Running on 99-octane unleaded petrol, the P1 LM has a total output of 735kW.

Only five P1 LM coupes were built for sale with an original sale price said to be around three million pounds ($5.2 million).
