2018 Citroen Berlingo and Peugeot Partner vans spied

The next-generation Citroen Berlingo and Peugeot Partner vans have been photographed undergoing hot weather testing in southern Europe.

Although the vans are wrapped head-to-toe in camouflage, we think the Berlingo version will feature Citroen’s new corporate face, with thin driving lights integrated into the upper grille with the double chevron logo, and disguised main headlamp units paired with a working grille underneath.

In comparison, the Peugeot Partner version will have a different face with a more traditional headlight and grille arrangement.

Differences elsewhere between the two cars will be largely down to badging and detailing. Styling for the side window frames are evolutionary, but boxier than on today’s cars.

It’s likely the Berlingo and Partner twins will grow in size. It’s not known which engines will be offered in the new Berlingo and Partner, but the current vans are motivated by 1.6-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and turbo-diesel engines.

A Mitsubishi-developed 49kW/200Nm electric drivetrain is also offered in Europe.

The Berlingo and Partner’s underpinnings will also be used for the next-generation Vauxhall and Opel Combo. Given work on these three vans began before GM sold Opel/Vauxhall to the PSA Group, it’s likely the Combo will not only feature external styling differences, but may also sport GM drivetrains.

The new Berlingo and Partner twins are expected to make their debut either near the end of 2017 or at the beginning of 2018.

At present, only the Berlingo is sold down under. With both Peugeot and Citroen changing its local importer from Sime Darby to Inchcape at the beginning of June, plans are in a state of flux, although the new distributor has been given the task of “[growing] the presence of the Peugeot and Citroen brands in Australia”.
