Voyager Space Probe | 40 Years Since the Interstellar Mission Launch

Voyager program is made up of two space probes, Voyager 1 and Voyager 2. They were launched in 1977 to take advantage of the favorable position of the planets in the late 1970s. The official mission of the missions was to study the planets of Saturn and Jupiter, but this is outdated, at this time the probes (still in operation) are at the edge of the Solar System far beyond Pluto’s orbit. On August 20, 40 years have passed since the launch of the Voyager mission, which included two twin probes to explore the vastness of our solar system. NASA has called on the public to conceive a message that will be sent to the space probe Voyager 1 on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its launch into space.

Voyager 1 is a space probe launched by NASA on September 5, 1977, currently (2017) still in operation. Visited the planets Saturn and Jupiter, is the first probe to transmit images to the satellites of these planets.

On December 7, 2007, it is at a distance of 104.7 AU from the Sun, being the furthest object made by humans, and will retain this feature because it has the highest speed to the Sun and Earth of all the launched probes. In 2009 it is 10 billion kilometers away from Earth, and the transmitted radio signals take about 15 hours to reach the Earth.

On August 25, 2012, Voyager 1 emerged from the heliosphere and penetrated into interstellar space, becoming the first space-based object created by the man who succeeded in doing so. It is expected that the Voyager 1 mission will continue until around 2025 when the thermoelectric generators of the radioisotope will no longer supply enough electricity for scientific instruments.

Voyager 2 is a spacecraft launched on August 20, 1977 (before Voyager 1) by NASA. It is identical to Voyager 1 and it is the only probe that has visited all four large planets of the solar system: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, due to the alignment of these planets.

Voyager – Message from an alien civilization?

The spacecraft Voyager 2, which is now outside our solar system, has been involved in a strange incident seven years ago. Even scientists now have no explanation for what happened then. On April 22, 2010, an error occurred in the space probe communication system, as if a hacker had intercepted the device to send a message.

Thus, a single digit in the binary code of the system was replaced: 0 was replaced by 1. NASA experts say it can not be a simple error because the computerized system onboard the Voyager 2 has behaved as if someone intercepted it and wanted to send a message.

However, at the time of the Voyager 2 incident, it is about 16 billion kilometers away from Terra, so it is impossible to have someone intercepted on Earth.

So, did the aliens want to send us any information via Voyager 2? The space probe carries a “golden disk” on board, containing images and sounds on our planet, a message we want to transmit to extraterrestrial civilizations if they ever get over our probe. Did anyone finally answer us?

The researchers do not yet have a plausible explanation for this incident. The spacecraft Voyager 2, which is now outside our solar system, has been involved in a strange incident seven years ago.
